Buses are not the most popular way to get around in the Virgin Islands, and in fact most islands on the British side don't even offer the service at all. On St. John, however, you'll be able to take the bus all along a major roadway.
For just a $1(USD) each trip, you can get from Cruz Bay all the way to Salt Pond Bay by way of Centerline Road by using the Vitran Bus System. Buses leave from the ferry dock every day at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 a.m., then 25 minutes after the hour from 9:25 a.m. until 7:25 p.m. every day. The route takes you along Centerline Road and through Coral Bay. The trip back from Salt Pond Bay leaves at 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 a.m., then 10 minutes after the hour from 9:10 a.m. to 8:10 p.m.
Unfortunately, the bus system here is not reliable enough to be counted on to get you anywhere on time. Plan instead to use the buses for a leisurely day of exploring with no particular plan on mind. If you've got a set schedule, reservations, or important plans, choose another way to get there.
