In a bright yellow building with blue shutters on the windows and doors is a friendly eatery serving up classic local cuisine. Named for the coal pot, the big pot that islanders used to cook their meals in up until as late as the 1970s, this restaurant is all about authenticity.
The menu is short, but the food is so good that a lot of options are not necessary. On a daily basis, guests can choose among roast pork, shrimp creole, whelks saute, baccala (salted fish), red snapper creole, garlic herb conch, oxtail stew, roast or stew chicken, lobster, roti, curried goat, salmon balls, and herb crusted steak.
D'e Coal Pot is a popular bar and grill that happens to specialize in Caribbean cuisine. Most guests consider the level of formality and service here to be very casual. When is this restaurant option on the table? They're open during both dinner and lunch, so consider giving it a try one day.
On the outside, the building appears to be a bit run down, but when you walk indoors you're greeted with a blast of air conditioning and a clean, modern bistro-style restaurant.
Situated in the heart of downtown Cruz Bay, D'e Coal Pot is located at Wharfside Village.
Feel free to combine dining experience with some excellent local sightseeing options by visiting one of the many area attractions nearby, including Franklin Powell Park.
