Culebra Nature Reserve

You should not have too much trouble finding the Culebra National Wildlife Refuge, as it makes up the majority of the island. The massive size does mean however, that the amenities and services are spread out, so don't expect everything to be in one place.

When most visit the wildlife reserve, they will be heading to the beautiful beaches. However, you can also take the time to hike a little and visit some of the ruins that can be found on the island, or visit the nesting sites of rare and endangered birds. Finally, one thing you can't do in smaller parks, is simply to drive around. The clean air and pretty scenery is perfect for exploring at you own pace.


Set on the western edge of the island of Isla de Culebra, Culebra Nature Reserve always welcomes local residents and tourists lodging on this part of the island. Whether or not you're staying very close, you are free to stop by to check it out. It's northwest of Culebra Pueblo.

You will have to take a ferry, private charter, or a plane to get to Culebra Island.

If you find your belly rumbling during your visit to the nature preserve, don't worry -- you will find an exceptionally large selection of dining options in this area. El Meson de Goyita, which serves up Creole fare, offers convenient access to this wildlife reservation. El Meson de Goyita is just about three quarters of a mile from the nature preserve, so check it out and try something off the menu. Café Delizioso and Cafe Isola are some of the additional food and drink options near Culebra Nature Reserve where visitors will be able to experience the flavors of Puerto Rico, and munch on some tasty cuisine.

Travelers who like wildlife reservations, and are interested in visiting others, might consider a trip to Culebra National Wildlife Refuge's Luis Pena Cay and Culebra National Wildlife Refuge; the first is two miles to the south of Culebra Nature Reserve. There are other places of interest in the area, including Flemenco Tank, which is a half mile away Isla de Culebra. You might also want to consider heading to Culebra Museum, which is another attraction in the area.
