Playa Brava

Located on the north side of Culebra is Playa Brava. This beach takes some work to get to, and is more suitable for surfing rather than swimming, so few are willing to make the trek. Those that do are rewarded with beautiful vistas and some of the best surfing conditions on the small island. Those who visit between March and August may also see the beach transform into the nesting grounds of the leather back sea turtle.

Set on the island of Isla de Culebra, Playa Brava is on the East edge of the island, You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying in the vicinity. Playa Brava stands out from other beaches because it's one of the best spots for escaping over-crowded hangouts in the town proper. Many of the other beaches you'll come across in Puerto Rico may have the same warm sand and calming breezes as Playa Brava, but tend to be more crowded because they border some of the area's most popular resorts.

How to Access The Beach
To get to Playa Brava, take Route 250 east, until you reach a a cemetery on the left side of the road. Continue on up th hill and make a left onto a road just after a stone house with a red roof marked "1905." Here, at the end of the pavement, you park your car, and hike along the dirt path for 20 minutes. When you reach a fork, take the right road, and there you will find the beach.

Amenities and Ambiance

A long stretch of golden sand stretches out along the aquamarine waters, which wash ashore in a slightly aggressive manner.

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location.
