Located on the north side of Culebra is Playa Brava. This beach takes some work to get to, and is more suitable for surfing rather than swimming, so few are willing to make the trek. Those that do are rewarded with beautiful vistas and some of the best surfing conditions on the small island. Those who visit between March and August may also see the beach transform into the nesting grounds of the leather back sea turtle.
Located near the heart of the island of Isla de Culebra, Playa Brava is on the East coast of the island, You might want whether or not you're staying in the vicinity. Love beach-going but hate the crowds? Extra space is just one of the perks that comes with finding a beach that isn't surrounded by thousands of hotel rooms; beaches less-traveled like Playa Brava are usually more relaxing than those overrun with fellow travelers.
To get to Playa Brava, take Route 250 east, until you reach a a cemetery on the left side of the road. Continue on up th hill and make a left onto a road just after a stone house with a red roof marked "1905." Here, at the end of the pavement, you park your car, and hike along the dirt path for 20 minutes. When you reach a fork, take the right road, and there you will find the beach.
A long stretch of golden sand stretches out along the aquamarine waters, which wash ashore in a slightly aggressive manner.
Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot.
Found on the East coast of Isla de Culebra; it will be near other attractions like Culebra Museum, which is a mile and a half away.
Historical attractions like Flemenco Tank provide a nice compliment to the scenery of Playa Brava, and allow visitors to learn more about Puerto Rico, without venturing too far from the coast. As a matter of fact, this shore will be found two and a half miles from this destination of historical interest.
