Beginning at the resort, the course winds along the Caribbean coast, then makes its way to the calm bay known locally as "Spanish Water." Elevated greens and undulating fairways add to the difficulty, and wind can sometimes play a factor, as one might expect from a seaside layout. Nevertheless, the course lends itself to a range of golfing abilities.
Having been erected in 2010, travelers visiting this course should find newly built, modern facilities. The lay of the land, difficulty of the holes, and surprise challenges reflect the design of Pete Dye, the lead architect of Old Quarry Golf Course. It has earned a course rating of 74.6, and its 18 holes measure out a total of 6970 yards.
In April 2010 the famous golf course designer Pete Dye finished construction of this course. It was named after the Plantation’s 19th century limestone quarry, the championship seaside layout was designed to fit seamlessly into the land’s hills and valleys. A challenge to players of all skill levels, the course meanders between the stunning blue Caribbean Sea, the slopes and hills of Tafelberg Mountain and the sheltered bay knows as Spanish Water.
To ensure it would be built true to the conservation principles of Santa Barbara’s owners, Pete’s son P.B. Dye planted its fairways and greens with the hearty Paspalum grass, which can be irrigated using both brackish and recycled water. The course’s signature hole Number Two, better known as “The Tale of the Gale” runs up the Caribbean coast and is a real challenge when the north-east tradewinds blow.
