Taxi transportation can be a good option for travelers who will not be doing extensive traveling around Curaçao. Whether you are at the airport, your hotel, or in Willemstad, taxis can provide quick transportation.

Taxi Companies

Taxis are easily found at the airport, most hotels, and the taxi stand in Punda in Willemstad. To contact the taxi office or to file a taxi complaint, call 599-9-869-0747. You can also get an up-to-date listing of fare rates here. You can also find out about taxi tours, which typically cost about $50(USD) an hour for four passengers.

Rates, Fares, and Fees

Travelers staying in an all-inclusive resort and those not needing to travel very far on Curaçao may prefer to hail a taxi rather than rent a car. Taxis in Curaçao have license plates that are marked with the letters "TX." Taxis rates are unmetered, and drivers may have rate sheets available. Travelers should agree to a price with the taxi driver prior to beginning the journey. Quoted fares are priced for up to four passengers, allowing a group of four to obtain a taxi for a reasonable price.

The table below shows a few taxi fares for the area.

Typical Fares Around Curacao
Typical Cost (USD) Location A Location B
$ 40.00 - $ 50.00 Hato International Airport Otrabanda
$ 50.00 - $ 87.50 Hato International Airport Jan Thiel
$ 40.00 - $ 50.00 Hato International Airport Downtown Willemstad
$ 40.00 - $ 50.00 Hato International Airport Piscadera
$ 80.00 - $ 100.00 Hato International Airport Westpunt
$ 40.00 - $ 50.00 Hato International Airport Punda
$ 45.00 - $ 56.25 Hato International Airport Pampoen Beach

A 25 percent surcharge will be added to taxi fares if there are more than four passengers or if it is past 11:00 p.m. There can also be small fees for large or an excessive amount of luggage. Many taxi drivers can also act as tour guides and will take passengers to different parts of the island. These rates generally run from $20(USD) to $30(USD) an hour. Again, passengers should come to an agreement on the rate before beginning the tour. Tipping is not mandatory, but many travelers leave a 10 percent tip.

Taxis are not the only way to get around Curacao. If you're visiting some of the larger cities or the tourist driven areas, buses are a good option and as a bonus they are inexpensive. Because Curacao is such a large island, rental cars will make the most sense for those who plan to tour as much area as possible. Hopping a ferry is also a fun way to travel, if you plan to make your move from Punda to Otrabanda to take advantage of the excellent shopping opportunities.

Many travelers to Curaçao will want to venture beyond Willemstad to explore some of the various attractions on the island. Christoffel National Park and the Curaçao Seaquarium can be well worth the price of a taxi fare. Taxis can be a good way of getting from place to place if you just want to visit a few sites in Curaçao.
