Dangriga Air Travel

Booking your trip to Dangria may include several plane transfers

There is one main international airport in Belize, and numerous air strips throughout the rest of the country, especially on the cays where vacationers looking for a private getaway frequent. Dangriga is one such cay that welcomes between one and two dozen flights filled with visitors daily.

Miami, Florida; Houston Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana; and Raleigh, North Carolina are the four U.S. Cities from which you can book a direct flight to Belize via American Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways. If you'll be flying from another city in the United States, from Canada, or Central America, you'll likely connect to Belize through Guatemala or El Salvador. There are currently no flight paths to Belize from Europe, so it is possible you'll have to fly to the United States and switch airlines before your trip to Belize.

About a half an hour outside of Belize City in the town of Ladyville is the largest, busiest, and only international airport in Belize: Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE). Everyone who flies into the country will first land at this airport. Facilities include restaurants and shops in the main terminal, a bank in the departure terminal, a tourist information booth in the baggage claim area, and rental car agencies across the parking lot. Taxis are also available if you'd like a ride into Belize City for between $25 and $30(USD).

If you're flying from within Belize, chances are you'll fly to the Belize City Municipal Airport because flights in and out of this facility are less expensive. Only domestic flights make the rounds here, where there is an almost 2,000 foot long concrete runways and not much else outside a restaurant, a bar, and the Maya Island Air Headquarters.

Flying to Dangriga from the Caribbean

...drop off and pick up passengers at other airports...

Despite the small size of the Dangriga Airport (DGA), there are numerous flights in and out of this facility from the two airports in Belize City. Maya Island Air has flights beginning at 8:10 a.m. and continuously throughout the day until 5:00 p.m. From Belize for $55(USD). The flight takes 15 minutes. You can also fly aboard the same airline from the Belize City Municipal Airport for $36(USD), but this flight takes 30 minutes because it makes stops to drop off and pick up passengers at other airports along the way.

See below for scheduled air service from airports in the region. Even if you can't get a flight from an airport near your home, taking a connecting flight from another regional airport might be a very viable option.

Another domestic airline called Tropic Air offers flights from Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport for $57(USD) all day between 8:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or from the municipal airport for $38(USD) between the hours of 7:45 a.m. And 4:45 p.m. Flights are sometimes canceled in the low season, so be sure to check before you leave to make sure your desired flight is still scheduled.

It may take a few transfers to get all the way to Dangriga, but both local and international air carriers keep flights flowing in and out of the airports in Belize on such a regular basis that tourists hardly notice thatare traveling to a destination thought to be somewhat out of the way.
