Nestled about midway down St. Lucia's beautiful Atlantic coast is the town of Dennery. A typical day at the beaches in this immediate area includes rough surf beating against a rocky coastline and foamy, salt water splashing up, spraying anyone who stands too close. These waters are choppy and rough, and not generally suitable for swimming, but the setting is ideal for contemplating the natural beauty and "getting away from it all."
One of the most interesting beaches in the area is also the closest: Anse Louvert. Because it's a little difficult to reach, you may have the beach all to yourself. This secluded setting is ideal for looking out at the sea, reading, or just communing with nature. If you have your heart set on swimming or snorkeling, you will probably want drive over to Marigot Bay or one of the other beaches along the island's west coast where the waters are much calmer.
You'll discover a large number of beaches to consider, though they are all located nearby. Snorkeling is available at some of the beaches, for people who enjoy the underwater scene. For a detailed guide to any specific beach you can click on the names of the ones you want to learn about.
If you like snorkeling, a beach where that's an option is Marigot Bay. With many docks, boaters will have an easy time arriving here; but if you're coming on land, take La Toc Rd south from Castries. After doing some serious road-winding, take a right on Waterfront, just before the Marigot Secondary School.
Another option to consider is Malabar Beach. While not overly urbanized, this is a beach that does see quite a number of visitors. Its location adjacent to the the runway of Vigie Airport make it quick and easy to access for those staying along the northwest coast - the most popular tourist area.
Vigie Beach: The sandy shores of Vigie Beach slope gently into the clear blue waters of the Caribbean. The beach is well sheltered, providing relief from unruly tradewinds.
