Nestled about midway down St. Lucia's beautiful Atlantic coast is the town of Dennery. A typical day at the beaches in this immediate area includes rough surf beating against a rocky coastline and foamy, salt water splashing up, spraying anyone who stands too close. These waters are choppy and rough, and not generally suitable for swimming, but the setting is ideal for contemplating the natural beauty and "getting away from it all."
One of the most interesting beaches in the area is also the closest: Anse Louvert. Because it's a little difficult to reach, you may have the beach all to yourself. This secluded setting is ideal for looking out at the sea, reading, or just communing with nature. If you have your heart set on swimming or snorkeling, you will probably want drive over to Marigot Bay or one of the other beaches along the island's west coast where the waters are much calmer.
You'll find a large selection of beaches to enjoy, although all of them are found nearby. Snorkeling is an option at some of these beaches, for those who enjoy the underwater scene. For a detailed article concerning any one of these beaches just click on the names of the ones you are interested in.
One beach where you may find people snorkeling is Marigot Bay. Marigot Bay is the perfect Caribbean locale, complete with mountain backdrop and cove. This might explain why it attracts visitors from all over the world.
Another location worth considering is Malabar Beach. The golden sands of Malabar Beach sit right in between Choc Beach and the Vigie Airport, where you'll find scores of beachgoers lounging in chairs under umbrellas, and many others in the gentle, blue waters of the bay. Off to the right, you'll have a lovely view of nearby Rat Island.
Vigie Beach: The sandy shores of Vigie Beach slope gently into the clear blue waters of the Caribbean. The beach is well sheltered, providing relief from unruly tradewinds.
