Deshaies Attractions

Visitors in Deshaies will find that the attractions they have the easiest access to reside along the coast in the form of several beaches with vary in style.  To find other attractions, like landmarks, museums, and waterfalls, you'll have to travel outside of town, but these sites are never too far off that it is a hassle to make it happen.

Beaches

There are a large selection of beaches to visit in and around the area. Snorkeling is available at some locations, for people who enjoy the underwater scene. You can click on each beach name to read a detailed article concerning that beach.

Anse Tillet: A bit of a rough journey to go with the rougher waves, Anse Tillet is a less visited beach that is perfect for a private getaway with the entire family. People who want to relax can do so with the privacy of a forest blocking any signs of civilization, while those looking for some activity can ride and fight the waves.

A second location for beach-goers to consider is Anse du Grand Bas Vent. Overlooking the beach is the abandoned hotel. Other than that, the beach is clear of structures, and the line of trees block the views of the small town the beach is located in.

Anse Riffiet: Encased by walls of trees on three sides, and wavy water on the fourth, Anse Riffiet gives the feeling of seclusion even though you are just feet from neighborhoods and communities.

Museums

Assuming you like to become more aware of unfamiliar places and cultures, you should consider visiting a museum during your time in Deshaies.

If you are looking to do some sight-seeing, visit Ecomusée CréoleArt. It is situated 4.7 mi. Southeast of central Deshaies. Operating hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Another common landmark for vacationers is Musee du Rhum. It is a part of Distillerie Reimonenq and located 6.0 mi. East-Southeast of central Deshaies. The main exhibit of the museum takes you through three centuries of history about the art of making rum, using the distillery next door as their main focal point. After viewing a video you can taste the varieties of rum, then move on to the fully reconstructed cooper's shop, view over 5,000 insects, and view other artifacts that are important to the natural history of Guadeloupe.

Historical Sites

In case you like to experience the history of an unfamiliar place, you might enjoy visiting a historical site during your stay.

Notre Dame des Larmes is a historical site just outside of Deshaies. A beautiful shrine atop a mini canyon with small pools that are open to swimmers, this site has a sense of healing and spirit about it that takes leaves guests feeling in awe of their surroundings.

Waterfalls

Although most tourists are drawn by the region's beaches, that isn't the only way to enjoy the area's natural wonders. One such example is Le Saut Acomat. It is located 7.4 mi. South of central Deshaies.

Botanical Gardens

Vacationers can also experience one of the botanical gardens nearby.

If you enjoy tropical vegetation, consider visiting Jardin Botanique de Deshaies, which is located 3.2 mi. South-Southwest of central Deshaies. Set on seven hectare, the garden are flourishing with both local and rare plants. The entire path that travels through the garden is wheelchair accessible so everyone can enjoy this tranquil setting.
