Dickenson Bay Air Travel

Dickenson Bay is not far from the only airport on the island of Antigua

Powder soft sand and a beachfront lined with resort properties, restaurants, and concession stands offering equipment is what awaits you in beautiful Dickenson Bay. All you need to get there is a quick flight to the nearest international airport.

Flying into the Land of the Sun is a pretty simple process. Located on the outskirts of Antigua's capital city of St. Johns is the V.C. Bird International Airport (ANC). It is located about 15 minutes away from Dickenson Bay. The airport is not what you would call big, but it isn't small either, and is equipped with all that you need in an airport: a book store, several duty free shops, a cafe, rental car agencies, an automatic teller machine and a currency exchange, and more than 10 rental car agencies..

As an international airport, VC Bird is able to accommodate jumbo jets, and many commercial airlines fly to the island on a regular basis. The downside is that most will still connect with other islands in the Caribbean before making the final journey to Antigua. Most people traveling from North American will be able to catch daily flights and can expect a layover in Puerto Rico at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, while those visiting from Europe and Asia typically fly first into the Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten. These flights occur only a few times a week.

Customs

When you do arrive in Antigua you will have to make a trip through immigrations. Do know that this airport is known for having the slowest immigrations office in the region, and it is highly likely you will spend an hour or two waiting in line. Be sure all of your paperwork is meticulously filled out to avoid having to redo any of it and having to wait in line for a second time. You can make sure everything is in order on the plane when you are handed an Immigration form to fill out. If you are traveling from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom you will also need a valid passport, and original Naturalization Certificate, a return or onward airline ticket, proof that you have enough money to get you through your trip, and proof of your accommodations on the island. If you're staying longer than six months, you may need to obtain a visa.

This table indicates which airlines offer scheduled service from U.S. cities and the airports from which they are flying. Not all flights you will see on the web are logical options so it's useful to realize which airlines fly directly to this airport.

Next Stop, Dickenson Bay

Depending on traffic, it takes about 20 minutes to get from the airport to Dickenson Bay. Buses are not recommended because the closest stop is too far to walk to with luggage, but you can take a taxi for $16(USD) for up to four passengers or rent a car. If you decide to rent a vehicle and drive yourself, you'll begin your trip by heading southwest on Burma Road, and turning right to remain on this road. Next, continue on to Old Parham Road and take the second exit onto Friars Hill Road in the roundabout. From there, you'll take a left onto Dickenson Bay Street, turn right onto Anchorage Road/Fort Road, turn left onto Marina Bay Road, then continue the rest of the way by following specific directions to your accommodations.

Flying to a getaway in Dickenson Bay is the preferred method of travel for most people. Like any mode of transportation, there are pros and cons to consider. Knowing all of the above information helps immensely, but in the end it will be up to you to decide.
