A great way to pass the time on Dominica is by attending an event or festival put on by the locals. Dominicana culture fuses African, Native Carib, French, and English influences, resulting in a rich island identity that is expressed through food, music, and dance. Some festivals held throughout the year include Carnival, the World Creole Music Festival, DiveFest, and a variety of village feasts. Check the daily paper while you are on Dominica to see what is going on during your stay or visit our guide to Domnica's events and festivals here.

History buffs and cultural mavens can take advantage of Dominica's rich past, which is on display everyday in its markets and architecture. In the capital city of Roseau, you'll find historic walking tours and the Dominica Museum, as well as the cobblestoned Old Market, which was once a slave auction and public meeting place. Many of the Creole-inspired buildings throughout Roseau are preserved from the 18th century, having once served as anything from old religious meeting places to military forts.
