1 | Cabrits National Park
This nature preserve is a mixture of forest and swampland that today is the location of choice for both tourists and migratory birds. In addition, the site is also home to a large fort built by the British in the latter part of the eighteenth century that included around 50 different building.
Situated within traveling range from Portsmouth, this nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve is located 9.5 miles (15.3 km) to the north of Sunset Bay Club Hotel.
2 | Fort Shirley
Built in the 1700's, this fort once stood guard for all of Dominica. Today it is part of the Cabrits National Park, and offers tourist a unique window into the history of the Caribbean's colonial past.
This historical site is situated on Cabrits Garrison, and is a few hundred yards (a quarter kilometer) from Cabrits Historical and Marine Park.
3 | Fort Shirley Welcome Center and Museum
At the Fort Shirley Welcome Center is a small museum that is open to the public. The museum showcases both the natural and historic importance of the grounds, discussing plants that reside along the trails, and some of the area's military history.

4 | Douglas Bay
This northern beach features a few spots of soft sand amid the rocky shore and calm waters for swimming. It's also a delight for snorkeling and it's near many other attractions, including the Cabritis National Park.

5 | Purple Beach
On the north end of Prince Rupert Bay, just south of Cabrits National Park, Purple Beach is in a region well known for it's excellent diving and snorkeling. This beach is a popular weekend spot.

Located inside Morne Tios Pitons National Park, this large waterfall is the iconic rain forest waterfall; complete with lush trees, moss covered rocks, and the rumble of water pounding into a pool, creating a thick spray of mist. The exotic waterfall is only part of the sight to see, as the journey to it will bring you past old coffee plantations as well as a collapsed lava tube; a geological wonder that may have helped create the island itself.
This waterfall is situated ten miles (16 and a half kilometers) southeast of Sunset Bay Club Hotel.

Not your normal beach getaway, Donkey Beach is more suited for a quick excursion for those staying in the city than a day at the beach.

While the island and people of Dominica have grown and changed over the decades, at the Old Mill Cultural Center, they remember and preserve that culture, teaching it to their children and to the visitors who show interest. 4 | Woodbridge Bay Beach
Although Woodbridge Bay Beach is one of the most convenient option if you're desperate to dip your toes in the warm Caribbean sea, you'll probably be happier if you venture farther out of town. This short stretch of shoreline is primarily of interest because it is right in Roseau; unfortunately, it doesn't have anything going for it beyond providing direct public access to the water right in town.
