When you're visiting a foreign country, it can be nerve-racking to get behind the wheel; plus, there is something to be said for sitting back and enjoying the scenery as you drive by. For this reason, and many more, hiring taxi is an important option to consider.

Taxi Companies

Dominica's taxis can be found in a number of locations especially Roseau, the airports, and outside of many major hotels. If you're out and about and need to hail a cab, you shouldn't have trouble determining which cars on the road are private and which are for public use. Taxi drivers are typically uniformed and license plates of taxi vehicles should contain the letters “HA” or “H.”

If you are stuck in a place where you can't hail a cab, try one of the phone numbers that follow.

Although taxis can be useful options for transportation around Dominica, there are several limitations to this service. Taxis can be difficult to find after around 6:00 p.m., which means travelers may have to arrange transportation for a set time beforehand. Additionally, the public minivan buses are typically more affordable than taxi fares, and rental cars may also often turn out to be more cost-efficient.

Rates, Fares, and Fees

Taxis are readily available to transport passengers arriving at either Douglas-Charles Airport or Canefield Airport to their final destination on the island. Rates are fixed by the government, and your driver should have a rate card available so you know how much you'll spend before you begin driving.

Taxi Tours

More than 300 miles of roads connect the various treasured sites and towns of Dominica. Allowing others to handle driving responsibilities while on the island gives travelers the opportunity to gaze at the beauty of the local environs as the scenery unfolds outside the window. Taxi drivers have a wealth of experience and knowledge when it comes to the local landscape and can be excellent tour guides for visitors on the island. Travelers can pay between $70(USD) to $90(USD) for tours lasting up to five hours.
