Not only is the Cuevas de Pomier area one of the largest caves you can explore in the Dominican Republic, it is also the site of a pre-Columbus Taino community, and archaeologist have an active mission in the caves to better understand these cave-dwelling natives.
Visitors to the caves will able to explore several public sections, and will even be able to see some of the Taino art and artifacts that were left in the cave when the Taino left.
Anthropological Reserve of Cuevas del Pomier is located 4.1 miles north-northwest of San Cristobal, a city in the vicinity of Santo Domingo; it is 16 miles (26 kilometers) to the west of Santo Domingo.
