Isla Saona

Set just of he coast of the Parque Nacional del Este, Isla Saona is one of the most popular beach excursions in the Dominican Republic. You can visit this island as a part of a tour, or hire a local fisherman to take you, then spend a day relaxing on the warm sand and splashing around in the gentle surf.

Located in the Eastern side of the Dominican Republic, Isla Saona is on the South East coast of Hispaniola. You might want to drop by whether or not you are staying nearby. Not looking forward to staking out a spot at a busy beach? All the more reason you should find a beach that hasn't been "discovered" by thousands of tourists; the lovely, less-traveled shores of beaches like Isla Saona are perfect for getting away from it all.

Starfish, manatees, turtles, dolphins, and even sharks all swim these waters.

You won't have to worry about finding a bathroom at Isla Saona because there are public restrooms. Additionally, lounge chairs are available for use at this location. The water in the area is of good snorkeling quality, so bring your gear if you're looking to see what goes on beneath the surface.

A lesser known beach, Isla Saona and its choice of amenities are bound to be a popular choice among travelers that plan to find a place away from the crowded beaches, since it is found within a quiet area. With this in mind, pay little attention what part of the day you arrive, as there is a pretty small chance you be required to contend with other visitors who will also want access to the amenities and services that are there.

You won't find any of the Dominican Republic's large hotels near this beach, though if you're hoping to evade throngs of vacationers, the shortage of accommodation possibilities will surely be a welcomed sight.


You might not find any places to eat right on this coastal destination, so you might want to pack a lunch for your time spent at the beach.

Needless to say, there are other beaches on Hispaniola besides Isla Saona worth visiting.

If you like the ambiance at this beach, you might also like Dominicus Beach, situated only a cab ride away from the coast. Others might prefer Playa Guanabano, which could provide a few more possibilities for excitement, and is closer to other popular destinations. It's located six miles to the northeast.

Another option worth considering is Bayahibe, which is close-by and another fun spot in the Dominican Republic. The exotic destination of Bayahibe is perfect for all sorts of travelers, whether seeking rest and relaxation or fun and adventure. From lounging on the beach to booking an excurtion to the off-shore nature preserve of Catalina, Bayahibe has plenty to offer.

Maybe Isla Saona is a perfect spot for you to kick back, and at the same time perhaps not the the ideal fit; in which case you should keep looking for a beach or natural attraction that suits your vacation style.
