Las Ballenas

Playa Las Ballenas means The Whale Beach, and was so named for the two whale-shaped rocks that can be seen from the shore. The beach itself is located in the center of the town of Las Terrenas, set at a point where a river dumps into the sea.

Located in the Samana Peninsula, northwest of Las Terrenas, Las Ballenas is on the North East edge of Hispaniola. You should consider dropping by even if you aren't staying particularly close by. Beachgoers should keep in mind that, although Las Ballenas is by no means secluded, it's not the rowdiest beach in the Dominican Republic either. It's the perfect choice for travelers who want to visit a somewhat lively beach without having to fight other beachgoers for a spot in the sand.

How to Access The Beach
Los Ballenas can be found at the junction of Fransisco Alberto Caamano Deno and Avenida Los Corales.

Amenities and Ambiance

Playa Las Ballenas stretches along the shore for about a mile and a half. The shore features tan colored sand and is lined with coconut palms, while the sea ranges in blues from aqua to navy.

Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot.

Since Las Ballenas will be found inside a popular area that can get crowded, you'll want to plan accordingly.
