Full of trees and bordered by rough waters; Playa Almendros is not your average beach. Those coming here generally only use it as a starting point for kayak expeditions.
Located in the Eastern side of the Dominican Republic, 0.8 miles south of Boca Canasta, Playa Almendros is on the South edge of Hispaniola. You should consider stopping by regardless of whether you're staying particularly close by.
If you decide to head over to Playa Almendro, you will need to simply take Avenida Fabio Herrera south out of Bani as far as it goes.
Don't come to Playa Almendro expecting white sandy beaches, clear waters, or even sunny skies. This beach is rocky, full of dirt, and not the kind of beach for sun tanning. However, if you enjoy swimming in wavy oceans, or are exploring the coast via kayak, then this might be a spot for you.
Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside.
Playa Almendros offers those who visit an idyllic and peaceful getaway, since the area surrounding the beach is not heavily urbanized.
This spot is on the Dominican Republic's South coast. It is near Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, which is only a short distance away, so tourists could take a cab or probably walk to this attraction, and it is one of a few attractions in the area.

Those visiting Playa Almendros who are seeking some additional excitement might consider making the trip to Bani, which is close-by and is a particularly bustling part of the Dominican Republic. From Playa Almendros, Bani isn't far off, maybe three and a half miles (five and a half kilometers).
Whether or not you encounter a lot of other visitors will depend on many factors, including the capacity of nearby hotels. Playa Almendros is not near very many major hotels, but it can attract guests staying at smaller accommodations in the area.
