Tucked into one of the more remote areas of the Dominican Republic, but still just a short distance from Puerto Plata, Playa Grande is an ideal beach for those looking for secluded beach feel with the convenience of a nearby city.

Located in the vicinity of Puerto Plata, Playa Grande is on the North edge of the Dominican Republic. You should consider stopping by regardless of whether you are staying nearby. If you're looking for a quiet part of the coast, away from crowded tourist attractions, you should consider going off the beaten path to Playa Grande.

How to Access The Beach
The beach is located between the city of Puerto Plata and the area of Bajo Hondo. Connecting the two is a coastal road that grazes the beach, which can easily be followed. However, there is little if any official parking, so you may need to get creative.

Amenities and Ambiance

Lined by a thick forest, any signs of civilization will be blocked by the tall trees, offering plenty of privacy and shade. However, with this privacy comes the trade-off of a rather dark sand and a beach that is less maintained, so you will likely find some driftwood and other things washed ashore. If such things do not bother you than no worries!

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here.

Playa Grande brings visitors a quiet and relaxing enclave, thanks to the fact that the region surrounding the beach is more rural than urban.
