Santo Cerro

A place of legend in the Dominican Republic, Santo Cerro is said to be the site of an apparition of the Virgin Mary. According to the story, Christopher Columbus was leading an army against the native Taino. When he placed a large cross into the ground on a hill, the Virgin Mary appeared behind it, scaring the natives and leading to their defeat.
