Elbow Cay Ferries

Ferries are one of the main sources of transportation to Elbow Cay

As you plan your travels to Elbow Cay, you'll quickly discover that flying direct is not an option. Once you hit a certain point in your travels, you'll have to begin planning about 30 minutes of sea travel, minimum. Some people will sail themselves, some will hire a private charter, but most people will rely on local ferry services to complete the final leg of their journey.

Mail Boats

Mail Boats are a slow moving, inexpensive way for locals and tourists to get around not only the Abacos, but the Bahamas as a whole. Originally, Mail Boats were used to transport mail and freight, but soon passenger seating was added, making it the only way for people to travel between the islands unless they were in possession of their own boat. Now, Mail Boats make stops in the Abacos, Acklins, Andros, the Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera, the Exumas, Grand Bahama, Harbour Island, Inagua, Long Island, New Providence, Mayaguana, and San Salvador. Unfortunately, Elbow Cay is not currently on the list of stops, but that could change at any time so make sure to check the most up-to-date schedule right before your trip. You can also take a ferry to Marsh Harbour, then hop on a mail boat.

Fast Ferries

Like the Mail Boats, Bahamas Fast Ferries travel between many of the islands in the Bahamas including the Abacos, Andros, Eleuthera, the Exumas, and New Providence. The ferries leave from Nassau at 8:00 a.m. every morning, returning by 6:00 p.m., making them a perfect choice for day-trippers. Note that these ferries are more expensive than Mail Boats, but they are faster as well, making them worth the price for those who are limited on time.
