A bit darker than your average tropical beach, Gert Bay Beach is less visited than others, which also has the benefit of allowing it to offer more privacy than most.
Located toward the center of the island of Eleuthera, 5.1 miles southeast of North Palmentton Point, Gert Bay Beach is on the Southeast edge of the island, You should consider dropping by even if you aren't staying in the immediate vicinity. Not looking forward to staking out a spot at a busy beach? All the more reason you should find a beach that isn't overly lined with restaurants and beach bars; beaches less-traveled like Gert Bay Beach make great places to spread out and relax.
The only land route to Get Bay is to take the road off of Queen's Highway that head towards Double Bay, and turning south when it ends. This will take you down a rough dirt road that leads to Gert Bay Beach.
Lined with palm trees and underbrush on one side and sparkling blue water on the other, Gert Bay Beach is a bit more natural than the more popular Eleuthera beaches, but is still tropical and full of beauty.
Please note that public restrooms are not available, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot. You'll find the waters off-shore to be clear and good for snorkeling, so purchase or rent some equipment if you want to check out what lies beneath the surface.

Gert Bay Beach is near Governors Harbour, so travelers staying in town won't have far to go. The closest town is Governors Harbour, which is not an overly urbanized area, but still has its fair share of things to do. From the coast, Governors Harbour is found maybe nine and a half miles (15 and a half kilometers) away.
The number of other people sharing spots in the sand can vary widely, depending on time of day, season, and how many people have booked nearby hotels. The area is not home to many major hotels, but you may see visitors staying at some of the area's smaller options.

Travelers who like this beach might also enjoy South Palmetto Point, situated a quick car or cab ride away. More active guests, though, may be interested in Ten Bay Beach, which could provide a few more possibilities for excitement, and isn't far from other popular destinations. You'll find it one and a quarter miles to the west-southwest.

Of course, there are lots of other things to do and see in the Bahamas; then again, Gert Bay Beach is both a beautiful natural attraction, and a fun hangout spot.
