Landmarks in Falmouth Harbour

A favorite destination of pleasure sailors, Falmouth Harbour and the township of Falmouth are generally home to more nature-based landmarks such as memorial parks and plantation ruins.  If you travel just southeast, you'll find multiple landmarks in English Harbour worth the trip, many of which you can see if you participate in a hike to the tallest point in town.  

Museums

Dockyard Museum

In case you like to become more aware of unfamiliar places and cultures, you might enjoy visiting a museum during your vacation. You can click on the museum names to obtain additional information.

One popular destination is Dockyard Museum. It is a part of Nelson's Dockyard National Park and found within southeastern Falmouth Harbour. Exhibits at the Dockyard Museum include displays of ship models and tools, a collection of Admiral Nelson's personal items (including his famed telescope), and other naval items excavated from the area. The grounds also offer a well stocked gift shop and a research library.

Another popular destination is Admiral House. It is a part of Nelson's Dockyard National Park and located in southeastern Falmouth Harbour. As visitors explore the museum, they will come across artifacts that all have a story to tell, including some personal possessions of Admiral Horatio Nelson, one of the most influential Naval officers in British history, and namesake of the Dockyard.

Betty's Hope: Betty's Hope is an old sugar plantation on a gorgeous property with curved hills. Enjoy a tour of the area and the museum which details the fascinating history of the plantation, the mill and the owners.

Historical Sites

Fort Berkeley

In case you like to experience the history of a foreign country, you should consider visiting a few of these historical sites during your stay.

An interesting landmark worth visiting is Fort Berkeley. It is located within southeastern Falmouth Harbour. This impressive fort at one time stood as the harbor's main protection from enemy navies. Built in 1704, the fort would eventually be armed with at leas twenty-five cannons that could reach about a mile and a half each, a clear deterrent to any approaching ships.

Another common landmark for vacationers is Shirley Heights Fort. It is located 2.0 mi. Southeast of central Falmouth Harbour. Shirley Heights is one of the most popular attractions in Antigua. Once a military lookout, the property is now home to a restaurant and bar that is famous for hosting a party every Sunday night as well as a handful of historic relics.

Greencastle Hill Park: One of the highest hills in Antigua, Greencastle Hill has been a popular place for hikers, tourist, and locals for most of recorded history. With beautiful views of the surrounding area, it is not uncommon to find people here simply enjoying the scenery.
