Windward Beach

Secluded, open, and rarely crowded, Windward Beach makes up for it rocky waters with beautiful views and plenty of sand to sun bathe on. With the shimmering ocean on one side and a wall of trees on the other, eco-tourist and all lovers of natural beaches should be pleased with this one.

Located on the southern coast of the island of Antigua, in the general vicinity of Falmouth Harbour, You might want to drop by even if you aren't staying very close. Windward Beach is a distinguishable relaxation spot because it's perfect for escaping the typical tourist haunts. Most other beaches in Antigua may be just as pretty, but are usually more cramped because they border some of the area's most popular resorts.

How to Access The Beach
At the southern end of Dockyard Drive, you can turn westward along dirt roads. Taking these dirt roads to the southwest will lead you right to the beach.

Amenities and Ambiance

Windward Beach curves in a cove that protects the beach from some of the rougher waters that can be found in the area. However, with the rocky shore, it is not always the best place to go for a swim, lest you hurt yourself. Additionally, if you do plan on a long day of laying in the sun, be sure to bring you own food and drinks; you will not find and on the beach.

Please note that public restrooms are not available, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot.

This pleasant stretch of sand known as Windward Beach is on the South coast of Antigua; the area is home to other attractions such as Nelson's Ruins West, which is a half mile to the east.

Museums and beaches may seem an odd combination to some, but at least a few travelers find that museums like Dockyard Museum (one of the closest to Windward Beach) offer rare insight into Caribbean life and a whole new way to view Antigua's traditions and culture.

Even after a restful afternoon at the beach, the day isn't truly complete until you enjoy a meal at a nearby restaurant, where you'll be able to sample the local chefs' favorite dishes, within just a few miles of this shoreline. One of the nearest places to eat is Bumpkins. This restaurant offers a menu of Caribbean food. They're perhaps most famous, though, for their seafood. Some guests will choose to take a cab here, while others will want to walk as it's just a short distance away.

Antigua has many beaches, so if Windward Beach doesn't sound like your type of scene, you have options.

Travelers who like this beach might also enjoy Galleon Beach, found only a short distance away. On the other hand, Rendezvous Bay could provide a little more opportunity for excitement, and isn't far from additional things to do and see nearby. You'll find it two and a half miles to the west.

Another sun-drenched spot to consider is Pigeon's Beach, which is located within a couple of miles.

Windward Beach could be the ideal stretch of sand, but it is possible that it may not be the best choice for your family; in which case you should find a beach with a seclusion factor that suits you.
