Xanadu Beach

One of the more popular beaches on Grand Bahama Island, this is a favorite spot for families as there is convenient access to restaurants and other facilities close by in Freeport.

Located in Xanadu Beach, two miles south of downtown Freeport, this beach is on the South West edge of Grand Bahama Island. You might want even if you aren't staying particularly close by. Those of you who want the best of both worlds——a sense of seclusion, but the option for activity—— should pay a visit to Xanadu Beach. It's not the type of beach that gets packed every day, but it's not dead and empty either.

How to Access The Beach
Located on the southernmost part of the island, the beach can be accessed by taking Dundee Bay Dr from Pinta Ave in southern Freeport. From Dundee Bay Dr there is public parking off to the left after crossing the bridge.

Amenities and Ambiance

The white sands, clear emerald waters, and phenomenal views you envision before you make you make your Bahamas trip are all here, and despite its popularity, you'll always be able to carve out your own quiet spot in the sand at this quintessential Bahamanian beach.

Many visitors find themselves ordering a drink or snack from the concessions here, even if they move off-site for lunch.

Restrooms are available at Xanadu Beach. Showers are provided for visitors, so you don't have to go back to your hotel sandy.

Even so, make sure you keep in mind that even though there exists options for amenities available if you go to Xanadu Beach, it is found inside an area popular among tourist. If you are no fan of busy beaches, it is an appropriate idea to make plans to visit for times when there are less people, maybe having your beach visit before the sun it at its hottest. Otherwise, you may not be able to use the amenities which this beach offers its guests.

What's Nearby


Xanadu Beach is on the South West coast of Grand Bahama Island; the area hosts attractions such as Regency Theatre, which is pretty close, so some guests will want to walk to this attraction, while others will choose to take a cab.

Museums and beaches may seem an odd combination to some, but at least a few travelers find that museums like Science Museum (found well within taxi range) offer a fun learning experience and help visitors understand The Bahamas' interesting past.

Cities and Towns

Xanadu Beach is very close to Freeport, so a trip into the city is a definite option. Not far away you'll find Freeport, a city which is in an area with interesting things to do and see, but isn't as sprawling and crowded as some other areas. From Xanadu Beach, Freeport is just up the road, about two and a half miles (four kilometers).


The number of other vacationers sharing this coastline can vary widely, it depends on many factors: the time of sundown, happy hour, even how full the nearby hotels are. You can typically expect to see a fair amount of travelers staying at the closest accommodations.

When you get hungry for an afternoon snack, the area near this beach provides some viable options, and you won't have to look too far away. One of the closest places to eat is Pretzel House. The restaurant serves International food. They are also famous for their coffee and hot dogs.

Other Beaches

Needless to say, Xanadu Beach isn't the only beach worth visitng on Grand Bahama Island.

You might also enjoy Coral Beach, located a brief car or taxi trip away. But, if you're interested in a more active beach, you might enjoy people watching at Bahama Beach. You'll find it 12 miles to the northwest.

Another location you may want to try is Bahama Princess Beach, which is located three quarters of a mile away.

You may find that Xanadu Beach is a great fit for your vacation, but maybe you want to see more; in which case there are other beaches (and other outdoor attractions) worth trying.
