Not far from the airport, Frigate Bay is served by many of the rental car agencies. This means that you can expect decent deals, a good selection, and the same delivery service that customers from the airport and ferry docks receive.
Frigate Bay and Basseterre share many of the same rental agencies. Being a bit further from all the city action though, Frigate Bay makes renting a car a little more necessary. Anyone with accommodations here that want to explore the north side of the island will need a vehicle. Renting a car gives you the freedom to go where you want when you want. With the selection of agencies here, you can also do it in whatever car you want too.

The cost of a rental car in Frigate Bay is anywhere from $40 and $60(USD) a day, plus local taxes and fees which include collision damage. While the price in Frigate Bay might be a little higher than elsewhere in the Caribbean, it is how things are throughout St. Kitts and Nevis. So while you may be tempted to head to a different area of the island for a better deal, the price is likely to be exactly the same.
The driver of the vehicle will also have to purchase a local driver's permit, which costs $24(USD) and is valid for three months. Most rental agencies will allow you to purchase this through them, but if not you'll have to pick it up from the Traffic Department. No test is required.
What is required is that everyone in the vehicle wear a seat belt at all times, which includes young children, so make sure to bring the appropriate child safety seat along with you. If you have any questions about renting a car, contact the agency you're renting with directly. Be aware that driving is done on the left side of the road on St. Kitts, which will be an adjustment for drivers from the United States.
Also, it is always a good idea to keep an eye on the gas tank. The roads on St. Kitts might be a bit more rough and hilly than you are used to at home, and the gas mileage is likely to be less than you'd expect.
Due to the fact that there happens to be just a few places that sell gas around the area, it is a good idea to check out the table directly below to see some locations.

While not for everyone, renting a car allows you see the most of St. Kitts. Taxis will get you from point A to B, but exploring everything in between requires the independence that only a private vehicle can deliver.
