Although taxis are available on Grand Terre, it is to a lesser extent that you will find them so readily available in Gosier; and when you do get a chance to ride in one, the price is high. For these reasons, this is not the most highly recommended form of transport in the area.
Throughout the island, you'll find minivans serving as taxis, which allow more tourists to ride together at once. They are easily spotted in popular destinations like resorts and beaches as well as main ports of entry like the airport, ferry terminal, and cruise port. In Gosier, it is harder to find them driving around the street, so calling ahead and asking a driver to pick you up is the best way to ensure you have a ride.

The government regulates the cost of a taxi ride at 1 Euro per minute, which was around $1.36(USD) per minute in June of 2014. What this means is, traffic will heavily influence the cost of your ride, and it is rare to spend the same amount going to the same place more than once. Most drivers are willing to negotiate a price, but are allowed to charge up to 40 percent more after 9:00 p.m., on Sundays, and on holidays. You should also account for a tip, which should be about 15 percent of your bill.

Pricy and hard to come by, taxis are still favored by a good deal of tourists who appreciate the ability to avoid driving in a foreign country on their own and like the private and personal service.
