Natural Attractions in Grand Case

The trendy small town of Grand Case is rarely thought of as the top place to visit when it comes to eco-tourism, but those who stay here can easily sneak away and see some of the island's most breathtaking sites without hassle.  Look for nature reserves, a plantation, and even a butterfly garden all within just a few miles of town. 

Nature Preserves and Hiking

Loterie Farm Nature Reserve

Do you enjoy being seeing the local flaura and fauna? You may be happy to learn the area has several interesting nature preserves nearby.

Loterie Farm Nature Reserve is a nature preserve located in Saint Martin, 1.6 mi. South of central Grand Case. The park itself offers guests the ability to explore the natural wonder of Saint Martin's forest. The hiking trail is relatively short at two miles, though goes up steep inclines, through ruins, and twists and turns that lead to side trails that can make the hike a little longer. You will have the choice of hiking with or without a tour guide.

Parks and Botanical Gardens

Vacationers can experience either of two parks, as well as a botanical garden nearby.

If you enjoy tropical vegetation, you might want to visit The Butterfly Farm, which is found within Orient Bay, 2.6 mi. Southeast of central Grand Case. The most important part of your visit at the Butterfly Farm will be a guided tour, which shows the evolutionary cycle of the butterfly, how they live, and what they do. Tours last for 15 to 20 minutes are are available all day.

Another popular attraction in this category is Emilio Wilson Historic Park. Emilio Wilson Park sits on the grounds of what was once a sugar plantation kept in operation by slave labor. In 1954, Emilio Wilson, the grandson of a former slave, bought the property and opened it to the public as a park in memory of the slaves who made St. Martin what it was.
