Taxis in Grand Case

Taxis make getting around Grand Case easy

Grand Case is the type of destination where everything you need on a daily basis is right within walking distance.  This allows most tourists to forgo renting a car, and instead, choose to take a taxi during those times when they would rather ride than walk.

Taxi Companies

Whether you're in need of a quick ride to a local restaurant or shop, or you'd like a private tour of the island, local taxis are at your service.  To hail a cab on the street, look out for a sticker in the window indication that it is a taxi, or check the license plate for the letters “TXI.”  Getting used to spotting a taxi can take a little bit of time since they tend to look like any other vehicle on the street.  If you feel it is too much of a hassle hunting a cab down, you can always call and have a driver sent to pick you up right where you stand.

Rates, Fares, and Fees

In Grand Case and throughout the rest of St. Martin, fares are fixed by the government and based on a two person occupancy.  When you get in the cab, ask your driver how much it will cost to get to your destination, or request the rate sheet.  There will likely be a few added costs to consider.  For example, every extra person in the cab will be able to ride for a fee of $4, and luggage is usually $1(USD) a piece.  You'll also be charged 25 percent extra for catching a ride between 10:00 p.m. and midnight, and 50 percent extra when you hire a cab between midnight and 6:00 a.m.  In addition to all of this, you'll want to show your driver your appreciation by offering them a tip of about 15 percent of your total bill.

The drivers in Grand Case are reliable and friendly, and have been properly trained to treat the island's guests right.  If you're considering skipping a rental and using taxis to get around, you'll be in good company because it is an extremely popular choice among this town's visitors.
