Traveling to Grand Cayman by Airplane

Grand Cayman is the easiest of the Cayman Islands to reach by plane

As the largest, most populous, and most frequently visited island in the Cayman Islands chain, Grand Cayman is the main point of entry.  The international airport, through which most people arrive, is located in George Town, central to the top tourist areas.

Roberts International

Just five minutes from downtown and near both the cruise terminal and Seven Mile Beach, Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) welcomes about 55 international flights each week.  Currently, there is one runway and one terminal on property, though there are plans to expand it so that perhaps more flights can be scheduled each week.  Although there are few hassles involved with traveling through this airport, visitors should be aware that on average it takes one hour to get through Security, Immigrations, and Customs. When you do make it through this process, you'll find a  Visitor Booth operated by the Department of Tourism right in the Customs area waiting to help you get any last minute information, help you plan sightseeing excursions, or answer any questions you might have.

Flying to Grand Cayman from the US

Almost half of the flights that travel to Owen Roberts International Airport each week arrive from the airport in Miami, Florida aboard direct flights with both Cayman Airways and American Airlines.  You can also get to the island on a less frequent basis from Newark, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, New York, St. Louis, and Tampa.

This chart shows which airlines schedule flights from the United States and the places from which they are flying. Booking services don't consistently list the best options so it can be helpful to realize which airlines actually offer direct service to this airport.

In order to make it through customs, you'll need an Immigration Card and Customs Declaration Card, both of which will be provided to you by the airline, in addition to your proof of identification.  For most people this will be a valid passport, however, Canadian citizens can obtain entry with proof of citizenship.  This could be a passport, birth certificate that either has the raised seal or a copy that has been notarized, plus a photo identification.
