Grand Turk Air Travel

Take in an aerial view of Grand Turk as you fly in to your tropical getaway

Home to the territorial capital, Grand Turk is a popular destination for tourists looking for a home base for exploring all of the Turks and Caicos. Even those who choose to stick to this island alone have plenty to see, including the supposed site of Christopher Columbus' discovery of land in the region. Tourists hoping to discover the beauty that Columbus did on his journey to the region will find that although they can sail just as he did, flying is a far faster mode of transportation.

The JAGS Mccartney International Airport is located just a mile outside of the capital city of Cockburn Town on Grand Turk. It is one of just two international airports in the country, but at this time no flights from outside of the chain land here. In order to visit this destination, tourists will first fly to the Providenciales International Airport in Providenciales then transfer to a flight with one of the smaller local airlines, Intercaribbean Airways or Caicos Express Airways. It is also possible to hire a charter to make the trip, which takes 30 minutes.

Flying into the airport on Providenciales can be done from a number of locations around the world with major commercial airlines including Air Canada, Jet Blue and WestJet. You can fly direct from New York, Miami, and Montreal among other locations, and also arrange for a connecting flight to these large cities as well as a few in the Caribbean when a flight is unavailable from the airport nearest your home town.

Flying to Grand Turk from the Caribbean

See below for scheduled air service from airports in the region. Even if you can't get a flight directly from your favorite airport, a connecting flight from another airport may be an excellent option.

JAGS Mccartney International Airport Caribbean Flights

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands PLS Caicos Express Airways, Intercaribbean Airways
Salt Cay, Turks and Caicos Islands SLX Caicos Express Airways
South Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands XSC Intercaribbean Airways

Entry requirements for Turks and Caicos are not unreasonable. Most visitors simply need a passport for their stay, although those visiting longer than 90 days, or from a number of countries in Eastern Central Europe will need a visa. Contact your local embassy if you are unsure about whether or not you need a visa. Canadian nationals can visit without a passport by flying directly from Canada, and presenting an original birth certificate and government issued photo ID card.

Flying to Grand Turk can be an adventure, what with the possible connection before landing on Providenciales and then island hopping to Grand Turk. Still, this remains the fastest and even most affordable option for most tourists planning on vacation here.
