Great River Bay

While Great River Bay is not the beach of choice for many tourist, it offers an alternative to the ones that everybody else will be at. Additionally, the color of the sand, and the popularity among locals still makes it a fun and unique beach to relax at.

Located in Dunfermline, Great River Bay is on the East coast of Grenada. You might think about stopping by even if you are not staying in the immediate vicinity. Travelers will find that, although Great River Bay is by no means secluded, it's not the busiest of Grenada's beaches either. It's the perfect choice for families who want to make the most of their trip to the beach but wish to stay away from the most populated spots.

Amenities and Ambiance

The dark sand is the defining feature of the beach, and it is what keeps many people away, espcially those wanting nothing less than shimmering white sand.

You'll find this beach on the East coast of Grenada. It is close to Grenville Cooperative Nutmeg Association, which is situated a mile away, and it is one of a few attractions in the vicinity.

History-focused attractions such as River Antoine Rum Distillery are a nice compliment to the scenery of Great River Bay, and allow visitors to learn more about Grenada, without venturing too far from the coast. Actually, this coast is three and a half miles to the north of this interesting historical site.

The closest town is St. George's, which is not lacking in exploration opportunities, yet also not overflowing with buildings. From Great River Bay, Grenville is not far away, roughly one and a quarter miles (two kilometers).


The number of other people sharing spots in the sand can vary widely, it depends mainly on when you visit, and how packed the nearby hotels are. There are not many large hotels nearby, but you may encounter guests staying at smaller lodgings in the area.
