While vacationing on the gorgeous tropical island of Grenada, travelers may find that business hours may be a little different from that of your home country.

Many places are not open on the weekends, and you may have to get an early start in order to catch a particular business or office before it closes. Vacationers should become familiar with the island's business hours so you don't miss out on making business transactions, or Grenada's outstanding shopping. Here are some hours of operations for local establishments you may have to visit while staying on the island.

Tourists can find baking branches in most of the major settlements on Grenada. Banks generally follow the same schedule, and are open from Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The majority of Grenada's banks aren't open on the weekends, but you may be able to find 24 hour ATMs on the island. Banks also are closed in observance of Grenada's major holidays including Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Independence Day (February 7), Good Friday, Easter and Easter Monday, Labor Day (May 1), Whit Monday and Corpus Christi, August 4 and 5, Carnival Monday and Tuesday in August, and Thanksgiving in late October.

Shopping at Grenada's local markets is a favorite activity of many tourists. The island is especially known for its production of spices including nutmeg, which makes a great souvenir as well as stocks your kitchen's spice rack. Shops generally are open from Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:00 to 1:00 p.m., so you may want to set you're alarms a little earlier on the weekend if you want to go on a Saturday shopping excursion. Some shops close for lunch at noon and reopen at 1:00 p.m.

Taking a day trip, or doing a little banking while on vacation can be made easier by knowing when the shops and banks of Grenada are open. Tourists should also remember that hours of operation might vary according to the tourist season, so check ahead before setting out on your island getaway.
