For the most part, Grenada's nightlife is quiet and centered around resort entertainment. But that doesn't mean vacationers looking to have a good time on the island are stuck at their hotel after the sun goes down.
Resorts typically offer their guests nightly entertainment as part of their stay. This can be anything from a steel pan musician playing poolside to an adults-only foam party. Elsewhere, night time happenings are widely varied, ranging from energetic dance clubs and lively theater performances to relaxed sports bars and fish fries.
The most popular night club on Grenada is St. George's Fantazia2001. Cover costs between $5 and $8(USD), and the most popular local and regional sounds are played nightly on state-of-the-art equipment. Saturday nights usually feature live music. The vibe at Fantazia2001 starts off each evening like a big dance party, but as the night goes on the crowd tends to get more rough and rowdy.
...noted by most as the best night club on Grenada.
While Fantazia2001 is the most popular, Club Banana, also in St. George, is noted by most as the best night club on Grenada. Club Banana is located down by the marina, and maintains a lively, but less rowdy, atmosphere. The cover charge at Club Banana is between $13 and $17(USD).
At 10,000 square feet, Karma is one of St. George's largest night clubs. Live DJs spin popular music while clubbers dance on the stage and images flash on a dozen or more plasma television screens. Wednesday nights are karaoke nights, and concerts often occur on Saturdays.
There are two bars that exist at Flamboyant Hotel in St. George, and they are open to the public: the Beachside Terrace and the Owl Sports Pub. Each has a pair of wide screen televisions for playing the day's sporting events, as well as pool tables and karaoke. The bars feature the island's longest happy hour, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. to midnight. The Beachside Terrace serves food between noon and 10:30 p.m. Another bar known for its culinary offerings (try the steak or Sunday night barbecue) is Aquarium Beach Club and Restaurant at Point Salines in St. George's.
Dodgy Dock Lounge Bar is a bar with flair. The bar mixes the typical atmosphere of a bar and grill with a nightclub, as a local DJ spins the latest hits, or a local band performs. Guests have the option of dancing or sitting at their table, nodding their head to the beat.
A few nighttime hot spots that are more restaurant than bar include Bon Accord Estate & Bar Cuisine, Cedar's Bar Nightclub, LaHeliconia Bar, Mangrove Hideaway Restaurant, Grill, and Sports Bar, Pavillion Restaurant and Bar, and Southside Restaurant and Bar.
Night time fun doesn't always have to be about drinking and debauchery. There is family fun to be had after dark as well. For example, the Marryshow Folk Theater in St. George's puts on concerts and cultural events. Some of the most popular shows put on by the theatre is a series of plays based on American, European, and Grenadian folklore.
For a taste of Grenada culture, head out to Gouyave on a Friday night for the Gouyave Fish Friday. This event runs from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. every Friday night, and is very family friendly. Vendors set up booths of locally made crafts and foods, and local music is performed.
Another family friendly activity is the crab races at Flamboyant Hotel each Monday night.
For an extra special treat, consider signing on for a moonlit cruise through the waters off Grand Anse Beach. You can sign on for a simple cruise with a company called Rhum Runner for about $15(USD), or a dinner cruise for $50(USD) per person.
Whether you are looking for a wild night out, or a few family-friendly activities, Grenada's nightlife is filled with options.
