La Desirade Beach

Located on what is the least developed island in the Guadeloupe system, La Desirade Beach is the perfect escape for anyone seeking to leave everything behind for a while. The beach has nice and calm water that makes for a picturesque scenery to relax to. Just keep in mind that there is not much here. Do not expect to find restaurants, stores, rental facilities; nothing.

Situated on Desirade Island, La Desirade Beach is on the South West edge of the island, You should consider dropping by regardless of whether you are staying in the vicinity. Vacationers will notice that, while La Desirade Beach is certainly not secluded, you wouldn't necessarily call it a busy beach either. It's makes a great option for those of you who want to visit a somewhat lively beach without having to fight other beachgoers for a spot in the sand.

How to Access The Beach
There is a small airstrip on the island, however the most popular mode of transportation for getting to La Desirade Beach is on a boat.

Amenities and Ambiance

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, which is something to consider if you plan to spend a full day in the sun. Fortunately, the water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so bring along some equipment if you're looking to see some exciting marine life.

La Desirade Beach brings guests an angelic and tranquil enclave, especially since the region surrounding the beach is positioned apart from more urban areas.

What's Nearby


You'll find this beach on the South West coast of Desirade Island. Terre-de-Bas Lighthouse is found nine miles away, and it is one of a few popular spots in the area.

History-focused attractions such as Domaine de Zevallos are a nice compliment to a soothing day at La Desirade Beach, and provide beachgoers with the opportunity to learn about Guadeloupe's past, without having to stray too far from the beach.

Cities and Towns

It is a bit of a drive, but Saint-Francois, just about 13 and a half miles away, is the closest town. though you may see some small, residential towns as you get closer to the beach.


The crowdedness of the shoreline can vary widely, depending on everything from the time the sun sets to how many hotel rooms have been booked nearby. There aren't many large hotels in the immediate vicinity, but you may encounter visitors staying at some of the smaller accommodations in the area.


There aren't any restaurants right on this coastal destination, so it would be a good idea to pack a lunch if you want to fully enjoy your time spent at the beach.

Other Beaches

Of course, you'll find plenty of other beaches on Desirade Island, so if La Desirade Beach doesn't suit you, you can still find a great spot.

If the vibrant atmosphere of La Desirade Beach is one of the features you love, consider heading to Anse des Chateaux, another destination with a good amount of excitement. You'll find it seven and a half miles to the west-southwest. If you were hoping to find a tranquil beach scene with few crowds, Terre-de-Haut may be a good choice. You'll find it nine and a half miles away.

Another location you may want to try is Point du Nord, which is located fairly close-by, so a short cab ride should put you in the right spot to check out this other choice.

There are plenty of natural wonders to behold in Guadeloupe, and La Desirade Beach is just one of many incredible attractions you can choose from.
