La Desirade Beach

Located on what is the least developed island in the Guadeloupe system, La Desirade Beach is the perfect escape for anyone seeking to leave everything behind for a while. The beach has nice and calm water that makes for a picturesque scenery to relax to. Just keep in mind that there is not much here. Do not expect to find restaurants, stores, rental facilities; nothing.

Located near the heart of Desirade Island, La Desirade Beach is on the South West coast of the island, You should consider dropping by regardless of whether you are staying in the vicinity. The area around this beach is relatively urbanized, but that doesn't mean the beach itself is going to be too crowded. Rather, you will generally find plenty of beach space once you hit the sand.

How to Access The Beach
There is a small airstrip on the island, however the most popular mode of transportation for getting to La Desirade Beach is on a boat.

Amenities and Ambiance

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside. Fortunately, the water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so grab some gear if you want to do some underwater exploration.

La Desirade Beach offers visitors an idyllic and tranquil escape, thanks to the fact that the region surrounding the beach is positioned apart from more urban areas.

This beach is positioned on the South West coast of Desirade Island; the area hosts attractions such as Terre-de-Bas Lighthouse, which is nine miles away.

Some may feel that museums and beaches are an odd combination, but plenty of visitors find that museums like Le Maison du Crabe Museum (one of the closest to La Desirade Beach) offer rare insight into Caribbean life and help share a different side of Guadeloupe.

Cities and Towns

It might take some time to get there, but at 13 and a half miles away, Saint-Francois is the closest population center. though you may find some small-scale towns nearer to the beach.


The number of other people sharing spots in the sand can vary widely, it depends mainly on when you visit, and how many people have booked nearby hotels. There are not many large hotels nearby, but you may see guests from smaller lodgings in the area.


You might not find any places to eat surrounding this location, so you might want to pack a lunch if you want to fully enjoy your day in the sun.

Other Beaches

Desirade Island has several beautiful beaches, so La Desirade Beach is just one of your options.

If the active mood at La Desirade Beach is what you're looking for, think about also visiting Anse des Chateaux, a spot with the same type of electricity. It is located seven and a half miles to the west-southwest. If it's a bit of peace and quiet you're after, Terre-de-Haut is a beach secluded from lots of tourists and buildings. It is located nine and a half miles away.

You may also enjoy Point du Nord, which is located four and a half miles to the east-northeast.
