La Grande-Anse is a beach of rough seas which isn't ideal for leisure swimming, but excellent for body surfing.
Positioned on the northwestern side of the island of Basse-Terre, in the general vicinity of Deshaies, You should consider dropping by even if you are not staying in the immediate vicinity. The surrounding area isn't stuffed with visitors, but that doesn't mean the beach is free from attractiveness.
The beach at La Grande-Anse is made up of calm blue waters and grand palm trees which create a wonderful exotic ambiance on this big beauteous beach. The sands at this beach slope steeply into the water, so take head when heading out to sea.The road leading to the southern end of the beach is long and very rocky and, although the rocks are small, be prepared for a bumpy ride. The road to the north, in contrast, is considerably shorter.
The concession stand at this spot is also an option. On some days, it may be possible to order lunch from one of the local vendors who are generally found here.
Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location. On the opposite side of the great tourist area on Guadeloupe, La Grande-Anse Beach is not as developed, and therefore it is also never as crowded.
La Grande-Anse offers visitors a quiet and peaceful experience, especially since the region surrounding the beach is away from most urbanization.
La Grande-Anse is always a lovely side-trip when you're in the area. Look for it on the North coast of Basse-Terre; this area boasts other attractions such as Notre Dame des Larmes, which is one of the most conveniently accessible attractions.
