There are no typical ferry services that offer direct trips to Harbour Island at this point in time; however, there are ways around it for those who need to make use to the sea as a source of transportation. One major ferry travels near enough to the island to let visitors take a water taxi the rest of the way, and the other is a private charter that those who are up for it can hire to take them on a tour.
The best way to get to Harbour Island across the seat is to take one of the Mail Boats run by the government. The MV Daybreak III offers the service, leaving from Potter's Cay on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., then sails to North Eleuthera. These boats are not known for moving swiftly, though, and it takes about five hours to get there. The trip costs $30(USD), then when you arrive you'll take the water taxi to Harbour Island.
In addition to the reliable Mail Boat options, Bahamas Ferries also offers a day trip to Harbour Island aboard one of their famous ferries. Although this isn't the same as using the ferry for transportation alone, it is an option for those who were considering island hoping to take into account. The service sails from the Bahamas Ferry ferry terminal to the dock in Spanish Wells on Eleuthera. From there, guests are treated to a tour of the island, and brought over to Harbour Island for an extensive tour of the island as well.
