Holetown Car Rentals

Explore Holetown on your own terms when you rent a car

The main point of entry into Barbados is the capital city of Bridgetown, which means tourists planning a vacation stay in Holetown will need to make their way north upon arrival. While there are several ways to do so, the well planned and executed network of roadways and short 20 minute drive make renting a car and driving yourself a feasible option.

Renting a Car

If you want to rent a car in Holetown, there are a few requirements you should be aware of. The first is your age. Most rental car agencies on the island prefer that their drivers be between the ages of 25 and 65, although exceptions can be made. Some agencies will rent to someone between 21 and 24, however they will charge extra, and others will accept a note from a doctor stating that someone over the age of 65 is of sound mind to drive. Whatever your age, you will need a driver's license from your home town and three years of driving experience.

The next requirement is a local driver's permit. These can be obtained either at your rental car agency, or the local police station. They cost just $5(USD) and are valid for one year, which means if you plan another vacation on the island within 365 days, you can skip this process the next time you visit.

With your Barbados permit in hand, you will be ready to rent a vehicle on the island. Likely, you'll do so at Grantley Adams International Airport or at a location near the docks in Bridgetown (click here for Bridgetown rental car options); though the bus is an option as well. If you arrive in Holetown before recieving your car, you may be able to get your rental car delivered to you. Regardless of the option you choose, you will probably be working with an agency you have never rented a car from before because there are no international rental car agencies on the island.

The Cost of Renting a Car

...most popular rental is a Moke...

The agencies on the island have a good variety of vehicles to rent, whether you prefer a convertible or need a family vehicle; however, the most popular rental is a Moke. Mokes are a unique vehicle, combining the best features of dune buggies, convertibles, and go carts into one to create a sporty little vehicle that can zip around even on the rugged back roads. Rentals typically cost $100(USD) or more, and you'll need to have a few hundred dollars available on a credit card in order to put down a deposit.
