Puerto Rico is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, especially for U.S. Citizens who don't need a passport to fly to this U.S. commonwealth. There are numerous airports located throughout Puerto Rico, though only two that are commonly used as international airports. The rest are domestic airports that allow tourists to fly from town to town. In order to visit Humacao, many tourists will fly into the international airport in San Juan and connect with the local airport to Humacao.
Your first stop when arriving in Puerto Rico will be at the Isla Verde, most say it is in San Juan – it is such a common thought that the airport is even often called the San Juan International Airport. When it originally opened, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport has just one asphalt runways measuring 9,783 feet long, a navigation tower, three terminals, and a small parking lot. As its popularity has grown, so has the space, which now houses an additional concrete runway that measures 8,016 feet long, conference rooms, a food court, and a shopping center plus one additional terminal. Today it is a major gateway for air travel in the Caribbean, and over 8 million passengers pass through the airport each year.
