Popular attractions on Isla Mujeres are certainly what one might consider to be unique.  Along with the ubiquitious beaches, there is also a cemetary, several statues, an observation deck, and a shipyard to look forward to exploring.  While some of these options appear to be odd, most people who have visited them agree that they were worth the trip.

Playa Lancheros

You'll find an abundance of beaches to enjoy on the island. Just click on the name of the beach to get additional information concerning that particular stretch of sand.

Playa Lancheros: Playa Lancheros is a small beach on the southwest coast of Isla Mujeres, best known for a seafood restaurant of the same name that is set on the beach. Meal times is when the crowds come in, so vacationers looking for a secluded each-going experience can find it here early in the morning and in the middle of the afternoon.

A second location for beach-goers to consider is Playa Los Cocos. For its picturesque views and quiet nature, Playa Los Cocos is often considered to be one of the best beaches on the tiny island of Isla Mujeres. Do not expect to participate in any extreme watersports here, however.

Playa Pancholo: Set on the north tip of Isla Mujeres, Playa Pancholo. The beach isn't especially popular, despite it's beauty and cool waters, but those who do visit certainly enjoy beachcombing, sunbathing, and swimming.

The island includes a wider range of beaches. Those interested can get more information here.

Landmark Attractions

Punta Sur Lighthouse

If the more functional aspects of life by the sea intrigue you, you might enjoy visiting Punta Sur Lighthouse. Punta Sur Lighthouse accepts visitors daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Many travelers also choose to visit Isla Mujeres Cemetery. It is Downtown Isla Mujeres, in northwestern Isla Mujeres. While visiting a cemetery on vacation is not often on the top of to-do lists, the cemetery at Isla Mujeres does offer a unique experience for those looking for a quick cultural excursion. The colorfully decorated graves and little houses that stand in for tombstones replace the somber cemetery feelings with one that would expect when walking through a quaint sleepy village.

Ekab Maya Ruin: Dating back to a time when Isla Mujeres was called Ekab, these Maya ruins served as both a temple and a lighthouse for maritime travelers. The feature was crucial for the Maya who would travel to the island to mine for salt and other resources.
