Despite common references to San Juan, it is Isla Verde that houses the largest airport in Puerto Rico, and one of the busiest in the entire Caribbean. Most visitors flying to the island will pass through Isla Verde, and some will spend their entire vacation here. Officially located in Isla Verde, the (SJU) is often referred to as the San Juan Airport. It opened in May of 1955 with one asphalt runway measuring 9,783 long. Over time, the airport expanded and now has an additional concrete runway measuring 8,016 feet long, four terminals, a food court, a shopping center, and several conference rooms.
The airport is an important one in, and most tourists will land here first before continuing on to their final destination. Additionally, as a hub for air traffic in the Caribbean, many tourists will take jumbo commercial jets to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport before transferring to smaller airports on other islands. Over eight million people travel through Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport each year.

After arriving at the airport you can rent a car from there and drive the 15 minutes to your accommodations. A rental car from the airport will cost between $40 and $60(USD) a day, and the price continues to go down the longer you reserve the vehicle for. To get to Isla Verde, take PR 26 west, and exit when you see the signs for Isla Verde. You can also hire a cab for about $20(USD).
