The taxi system in San Juan is different than most other cities in Puerto Rico, but being so close to this tourism Mecca, Isla Verde operates under the same rules and restrictions, and is even considered to be part of San Juan's "zone" with regards to how taxi trips are priced.
Taxis are relatively easy to come by in Isla Verde, and you shouldn't have trouble spotting one in the crowd. The majority of taxis are painted white and feature the words "Taxi Turistico" on the front of the vehicle. You should also be on the lookout for Painted Taxis. These are older model taxis that have begun to show their age on the exterior that were handed over to local artists to make brand new. These artists used their unique style to transform each taxi into a work of art. Some taxis are reminiscent of classic art teachings, while others are funky with graffiti-style strokes. The roll out of these Painted Taxis has definitely brightened the streets of San Juan and its surrounding area, including Isla Verde.
If you'd rather call for a cab to meet you at a preset location and time, you can contact any one of these local taxi agencies.

Regardless of your destination, remember to offer a tip to your driver for his or her service. A fair offering is between 10 and 15 percent, but the amount you tip is completely up to you and should be reflective of your personal experience.
Because of the heavy traffic that Isla Verde is known for, many tourists opt to let a local do the driving. Fortunately, taxis here are clean, drivers are well-trained, and the rates are easy to understand. You shouldn't have any issues if this is your chosen mode of transportation.
