Transportation Options for Isla Verde

Home to one of the hippest and hottest stretches of hotels in the San Juan area, Isla Verde attracts tourists who have style and want to stay in the lap of luxury. Fortunately for them, this small town benefits from San Juan's exemplary public transportation system, plus it is within easy distance of all of the modes of transport that get people to Puerto Rico.

Getting There

Isla Verde is within driving distance of every major source of transportation to Puerto Rico, including flight, sailing, and cruising.

Air Travel

Home to Puerto Rico's major airport, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), Isla Verde is easily accessible by air. Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is a regional hub for air traffic, which means that flights from around the world arrive here numerous times throughout the day, so no matter where you're traveling from it will likely be easy to find a flight that fits your schedule and at a low cost to you. Big name liners like Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Carnival, Disney, Holland America and more, can all be seen docked at the cruise ship terminal in San Juan on a regular basis, especially during the height of cruise season. Puerto Rico is one of the busiest destinations for cruise ships in the Caribbean, even offering a number of cruises that depart from San Juan. Deboarding a cruise ship that has docked in Puerto Rico and heading to Isla Verde is not only possible, but easy to do thanks to the abundance of local transportation options.

Rental Cars

Prices listed for rental cars in Isla Verde can be deceiving if you're searching on-line or calling a particular agency directly for a quote. This is because the typical listing of between $40 and $60(USD) a day does not include taxes, fees, and insurance costs, which can add another $20(USD) or more to your final cost. Additionally, drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 will be charged an extra $10 to $25(USD) a day as a safety precaution. Taxis

Located within such close proximity of San Juan, Isla Verde benefits from much of the public transportation system including the abundance of taxis. In San Juan, rates are determined based on a zone system, and Isla Verde is located in Zone Two, which means it will cost $10(USD) to get from the international airport to the resorts in town and $19(USD) from the piers. Buses

Known as guaguas, the buses in Puerto Rico revolve mainly around San Juan, connecting the major city to many of the towns surrounding it including Isla Verde. The buses run from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily and cost $0.75(USD) per person.

Publicos

Isla Verde is also home to a form of transportation that most tourists are not aware of: publicos. Publicos, which are recognizable by the letters "P" or "PD" on a yellow license plate operate on set routes but don't have set stops. Instead, the pick up and drop off passengers along the way whenever they need. The vehicles are usually mini buses or large vans and are similar to taxis, but pick up passengers until the vehicle is full, meaning you may end up sharing a ride with someone you've never met before. Rates are not standardized, but tend to come in at around $1.50(USD).

Nearly every form of transportation you can think of if available to tourists in Isla Verde, which opens the door for a lot of decisions to be made during the travel planning process.
