Tropical Lagoon

Tropical Lagoon is true to its name. Its a pool of ocean water that is inland from the main beach, round and darker blue than the turquoise sea. It's fun to swim but there is no true sandy beach to speak of as trees surround it on all sides. It is adjacent to the Tropical Lagoon Resort and therefore will probably be crowded with swimmers and onlookers.

Located in the heart of Portland Parish, 1.1 miles west-northwest of Fairy Hill, Tropical Lagoon is on the East coast of Jamaica. You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying in the vicinity. This beach is not just a tropical beauty, it's one of the rare "quiet" beaches in Jamaica. While Tropical Lagoon might be a little bit out of the way, visiting this beach instead of a more crowded one could make your experience less stressful.

Amenities and Ambiance

Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, though you may be able to use the facilities at a nearby business. The water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so bring along some gear if you've been hoping to get in some underwater exploration.

If you like the ambiance at this beach, you might also like Fairy Hill Beach, found only a short distance away. Fairy Hill Beach attracts locals and visitors alike to its energetic shores. During the week crowds are at a minimum and snorkeling is fantastic at the small off shore reef, but bring your own equipment. A small eatery serves vegetarian and Jamaican jerk dishes for a nice afternoon snack. More active guests, though, may be interested in Winnifred Beach, which offers a few more possibilities for excitement, and isn't far from additional things to do and see nearby. It's located three quarters of a mile to the east.

You may also want to consider San San Beach, located less than a mile away. $8(USD) will get you into this private beach that is perfect for snorkeling and enjoying the warm, shallow waters in this protected area. Near Frenchman's Cove, the atmosphere is more upscale and Princess Island, across the way, is an easy swim to a secluded island. A lunch bar and equipment rentals round out a fun beach day at San San Beach.

Jamaica offers endless ways to discover its natural beauty, and Tropical Lagoon is just one of many incredible attractions you can choose from.
