Tropical Lagoon

Tropical Lagoon is true to its name. Its a pool of ocean water that is inland from the main beach, round and darker blue than the turquoise sea. It's fun to swim but there is no true sandy beach to speak of as trees surround it on all sides. It is adjacent to the Tropical Lagoon Resort and therefore will probably be crowded with swimmers and onlookers.

Situated in Portland Parish, 1.1 miles west-northwest of Fairy Hill, Tropical Lagoon is on the East coast of Jamaica. You should consider dropping by regardless of whether you are staying very close. This beach is not just another pleasant piece of the coast, it is one of the more unique and quiet beaches in Jamaica. While Tropical Lagoon may be a little bit out of the way, it offers unparalleled relaxation opportunities.

Amenities and Ambiance

Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, but you may be able to find facilities at a nearby business. The water here is fit for snorkeling, so bring your gear if you want to see the underwater world.

Of course, there are lots of other spots along the coast of Jamaica, so Tropical Lagoon is not your only option.

You might also enjoy Fairy Hill Beach, found within a mile or so. Fairy Hill Beach attracts locals and visitors alike to its energetic shores. During the week crowds are at a minimum and snorkeling is fantastic at the small off shore reef, but bring your own equipment. A small eatery serves vegetarian and Jamaican jerk dishes for a nice afternoon snack. If you're looking for a more active beach scene, you might like Winnifred Beach. It's located three quarters of a mile to the east.

Another option worth considering is San San Beach, which is located three quarters of a mile away. $8(USD) will get you into this private beach that is perfect for snorkeling and enjoying the warm, shallow waters in this protected area. Near Frenchman's Cove, the atmosphere is more upscale and Princess Island, across the way, is an easy swim to a secluded island. A lunch bar and equipment rentals round out a fun beach day at San San Beach.

Jamaica has a lot to offer its visitors, but a trip to Tropical Lagoon could end up a family favorite.
