Jolly Harbour Attractions

An areal view of Jolly Harbour shows a marina as the center of all activity in the area.  Sailing is a huge part of life here, but when captains and their companions dock they will also find plenty of attractions to keep their days and nights busy.  Within the immediate area there are some of the island's most beautiful beaches, several green parks, and guided tours.  There are also casinos available for a little gaming entertainment.


Jolly Beach

Jolly Beach: A long beach jutting out into the ocean, Jolly Beach is adjacent to Jolly Harbor and is surrounded by lots of activity. There are restaurants, accommodations, bars and a casino around this beach.

A second location that beach-goers can consider is Valley Church Beach. Valley Church Beach is a beautiful, often overlooked beach on Antigua's eastern shore. The waters are clean and calm.

Cove Bay Beach: When heading towards the peninsula that the beach is located on, you will need to take the road going North away from Jolly Harbor and towards the Hermitage Bay. After passing the resort, the road turns into a dirt road that then splits north and south.

Landmark Attractions

Fort James

Many travelers choose to visit Greencastle Hill Park. It is located 2.5 mi. East of central Jolly Harbour. One of the highest hills in Antigua, Greencastle Hill has been a popular place for hikers, tourist, and locals for most of recorded history. With beautiful views of the surrounding area, it is not uncommon to find people here simply enjoying the scenery.

Another interesting landmark worth visiting is Fort Barrington. It is situated in Five Islands, 4.3 mi. North of central Jolly Harbour. Built in 1796, the British hoped that this fort would help protect the island from the French and other enemies, which it successfully did. Visitors to the site will be able to explore the old rooms and take in the breathtaking views from the position.

Fort James: Once of the earlier British forts on the island, Fort James was constructed in 1706 in fear of an eventual French invasion. Till this day it stands guard in front of St. John's Harbor, though now mainly as a tourist attraction.

Nelson's Dockyard National Park

One of the worthwhile outdoor tourist attractions is Victoria Park. Originally established in 1888, the gardens offer visitors a quiet escape from the crowds of St. Johns and Dickenson Bay. Among the flowers and trees, you will be able to relax and take a break from more active adventures.
