Attractions in Jolly Harbour

An areal view of Jolly Harbour shows a marina as the center of all activity in the area.  Sailing is a huge part of life here, but when captains and their companions dock they will also find plenty of attractions to keep their days and nights busy.  Within the immediate area there are some of the island's most beautiful beaches, several green parks, and guided tours.  There are also casinos available for a little gaming entertainment.


Jolly Beach

Jolly Beach: You will have no trouble finding this beach on the western side of the island, right off of valley road. It's past Jolly Harbor and the Jolly Beach Resort.

Another alternative for beach-goers to consider is Valley Church Beach. Between Coco Beach and Jolly Harbour, Valley Church Beach can be seen from Valley Road and is accessible to the public.

Cove Bay Beach: Cove Bay Beach is located right across from Jolly Harbor. With that said, it is much quieter and much less developed than Jolly Harbor.

Landmark Attractions

Fort James

If you are looking to do some sight-seeing, visit Greencastle Hill Park. It is located 2.5 mi. East of central Jolly Harbour. One of the highest hills in Antigua, Greencastle Hill has been a popular place for hikers, tourist, and locals for most of recorded history. With beautiful views of the surrounding area, it is not uncommon to find people here simply enjoying the scenery.

Another interesting landmark worth visiting is Fort Barrington. It is located in Five Islands, 4.3 mi. North of central Jolly Harbour. Built in 1796, the British hoped that this fort would help protect the island from the French and other enemies, which it successfully did. Visitors to the site will be able to explore the old rooms and take in the breathtaking views from the position.

Fort James: Once of the earlier British forts on the island, Fort James was constructed in 1706 in fear of an eventual French invasion. Till this day it stands guard in front of St. John's Harbor, though now mainly as a tourist attraction.

Nelson's Dockyard National Park

Victoria Park is one of the more popular natural attractions. Originally established in 1888, the gardens offer visitors a quiet escape from the crowds of St. Johns and Dickenson Bay. Among the flowers and trees, you will be able to relax and take a break from more active adventures.

Another local site to consider visiting is Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour. Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour is a unique way to view the rainforest of Antigua. On one of nine zip-lines or two canopy bridges you can experience a fully guided and exhilarating tour of some of the most beautiful land on the island.

Casino at Jolly Beach, part of Jolly Beach Resort & Spa, is found in the heart of Jolly Harbour.
