Jolly Harbour Attractions

An areal view of Jolly Harbour shows a marina as the center of all activity in the area.  Sailing is a huge part of life here, but when captains and their companions dock they will also find plenty of attractions to keep their days and nights busy.  Within the immediate area there are some of the island's most beautiful beaches, several green parks, and guided tours.  There are also casinos available for a little gaming entertainment.

Beaches

Jolly Beach

You'll discover several beaches to enjoy in and around the area. You can click on the name of each beach for more information concerning that beach.

Jolly Beach: You will have no trouble finding this beach on the western side of the island, right off of valley road. It's past Jolly Harbor and the Jolly Beach Resort.

Attractions Map

A second option worth considering is Valley Church Beach. Dotted with palm trees, this long white sand beach is eight miles from St. Johns. It's a quiet beach nestled between more popular shoreline spots.

Cove Bay Beach: When heading towards the peninsula that the beach is located on, you will need to take the road going North away from Jolly Harbor and towards the Hermitage Bay. After passing the resort, the road turns into a dirt road that then splits north and south.

Landmark Attractions

Fort James

Many travelers choose to visit Greencastle Hill Park. It is found 2.5 mi. East of central Jolly Harbour. One of the highest hills in Antigua, Greencastle Hill has been a popular place for hikers, tourist, and locals for most of recorded history. With beautiful views of the surrounding area, it is not uncommon to find people here simply enjoying the scenery.

If you are looking to do more sight-seeing, visit Fort Barrington. It is located within Five Islands, 4.3 mi. North of central Jolly Harbour. Built in 1796, the British hoped that this fort would help protect the island from the French and other enemies, which it successfully did. Visitors to the site will be able to explore the old rooms and take in the breathtaking views from the position.

Fort James: Once of the earlier British forts on the island, Fort James was constructed in 1706 in fear of an eventual French invasion. Till this day it stands guard in front of St. John's Harbor, though now mainly as a tourist attraction.

Nelson's Dockyard National Park

One of the more frequently visited natural attractions is Victoria Park. <p>Originally established in 1888, the gardens offer visitors a quiet escape from the crowds of St. Johns and Dickenson Bay. Among the flowers and trees, you will be able to relax and take a break from more active adventures.</p>

Another place you might like is Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour. <p>Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour is a unique way to view the rainforest of Antigua. On one of nine zip-lines or two canopy bridges you can experience a fully guided and exhilarating tour of some of the most beautiful land on the island.</p>

Casinos

In the mood for some action? Vacationers who'd like to try their luck can find several opportunities to do so nearby.

Royal Antiguan, on the premises of Grand Royal Antiguan Beach Resort, is located within Five Islands, 3.8 mi. North of central Jolly Harbour. Guests can get in a bit of light gaming when they stay at the Grand Royal Antiguan Beach Resort. Set just off The Club, the facility here is small and offers a collection of electronic games and slots.

Paradise Casino is found in Redcliffe Quay, 4.7 mi. Northeast of central Jolly Harbour. Located on Lower Market Street on St. John's, Paradise Casino is your typical Caribbean casino, located in a well-lit space with slot machines set up in neat little rows, and courteous dealers manning the table games.

King's Casino provides a wide array of games for visitors to enjoy, including Blackjack, Blackjack - Spanish 21, Craps, Poker, and Poker - 3 card. King's Casino has been keeping vacationers in Antigua entertained since 1988, and is considered to be the most popular casino on the island. The casino is located in downtown St. John's, Antigua at Heritage Quay, and features hundreds of slot machines as well as a few live table games.
