Devon House is a unique landmark. On an island filled with historic plantation houses once owned by white slave owners, Devon house was built by Jamaica's first black millionaire, George Stielbel.

What to Expect

Inside Devon House is a collection of Jamaican, English, and French antiques that date back to the 19th century. A tour of this property takes guests through a huge number of rooms including Palm Hall, the dining room which has a 19th century grandfather clock, a drawing room, a game room that still houses popular games from the 1800s, a sewing room, the grand ballroom with its original chandelier, the master bedroom, a young girls room, and more.

Devon House is an example of Jamaican-Georgian architecture, which features an elegant, sweeping staircase, jalousied panels, and symmetrical lines.

Opa Greek Restaurant and Lounge, which serves Greek dishes, will be of particular interest to visitors looking for a convenient meal. The eatery is a slight ways off, but out of the way enough that you will need to make arrangements for taking advantage of a particular method of transportation to get there. Domino's Hope Road and JoJo's Jerk Pit are additional nearby lunch and dinner possibilities. At JoJo's Jerk Pit you should eat some Caribbean dishes and experience the flavors of Jamaica.
