Port Royal

Immortalized by tales of British Navy-men and stories of pirates, Port Royal was the capital of early Jamaica and the stronghold of the British Empire in the New World. Originally in Spanish possession, the British were able to seize the area take control of this vital site in 1655.

Exhibits and Offerings

Port Royal is a pretty large area, and can be considered an entire historic district. Visitors can walk around this historic fortress and see many of the buildings that once house powerful men, experienced war fighters, and the people that helped shape the region's history.

Much of the area has been restored in its colonial image, and as you walk around you can get a feel of how the port would have looked three centuries ago.

There is an on-location eatery giving guests the chance to satisfy their hunger before or after visiting.

Location and What's Nearby

Guests at Port Royal will have access to at least a couple recreational opportunities like working on their golf game and doing some beach-going not far away. Historic site visitors also interested in golfing will surely enjoy heading over to nearby Caymanas Golf Club. Many days can also be filled with time at Maiden Cay Beach, the most close-by beach. Although the selection isn't overly extensive, a few other similar outdoor possibilities exist in the area. It's worth noting historic site guests will also be near at least one other attraction. Another site to have some fun near Port Royal is Fort Charles, which you can find a short distance away.
