One of the oldest public facilities on the island, Rockfort Mineral Spa is not a spa as you might imagine a day spa. Instead, it is a natural mineral bath known for its healing properties.
No one is certain, but it is believed that the mineral bath appeared after an earthquake in 1907. It has been a national monument since 1992 and is known for the therapeutic mineral content. The spring is fed by a natural spring which comes from the surrounding mountains. Bath houses dot the property, both public and private.
The springs are open to visitors from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays, and also from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Set in the vicinity of Kingston, 1.5 miles northwest of Harbour View, Rockfort Mineral Spa is a great option if you're planning a vacation in this area of Jamaica. In case you're wondering, Kingston is five miles (eight kilometers) to the northwest.
You won't have a hunger problem if you linger at this spa; you're going to find a nice array of local dining spots in the general vicinity of this spa. Alexander's, which specializes in Caribbean food, is one of the closest places where you can eat.
