Perhaps best known as the home of not only the top golf course in the country, but one of the top courses in the world, La Romana attracts hundreds of tourists annually who visit specifically to get in 18 holes at Teeth of the Dog.  When they aren't hitting the links at this or one of the other courses in the area, they'll find La Romana to be a city busy with tourists that remains as beautiful as any other tropical getaway while offering a great deal of activities that cater to visitors.

Sightseeing is a great place to start, with a visit to Altos de Chavon, a 15th century colonial village that is also a great place to do some shopping, at the top of the list.  There is also a Roman Cigar Factory that offer tours, hiking paths through a national park, tennis courts, and a few spas for a bit of pampering.  If the sea is calling your name, the diving and snorkeling opportunities are outstanding, and deep sea fishing is a great activity as well.
