The Dominican Republic is a favored dive destination, so much so that many of the all-inclusive resorts on the island offer diving as a part of their all-inclusive package. At the very least, there is usually a dive operator on-site or within walking distance where you can train and then take guided tours under the sea. La Romana is no exception, and many resorts in town offer Discover Scuba Diving for beginners at the very least.
You'll find 9 dive services and at least 12 different dive sites to choose from.
If you want to go diving, you might want to contact Caribbean Dive College. Several internship programs are available each year for would-be instructors, and divers benefit from having two guides available to them as they learn beginning dive techniques and visit such local dive sites as the St. George Wreck. They are located in eastern La Romana.
A second option is Uwe Scuba Dive Center. The only TDI Training Center on the island, Uwe Scuba Dive Center is named for owner Uwe Rath. He has more than 30 years experience diving and teaching, and staffs his center full of equally qualified teachers who know that the individual dive experience is what their guests are looking for -- and what they are readily able to offer. They can be reached at (809) 804-9445.
A third good option is Coral Point Diving. The only Five Star Instructor Development Dive Resort in the area, Coral Point specializes in training future instructors as well as offering PADI courses for divers of various levels of experience, plus daily excursions to some of the most talked about sites in the region. They're located in eastern La Romana.
