La Vega is the complete opposite of the Dominican Republic's most tourist-driven cities, and most people arrive knowing that they will be renting a car so that they can drive around and see all of the area's natural attractions. Not everyone is able or wants to rent a car, however, and fortunately for them, taxis in this town are also a great option.
Though they tend to blend in with other vehicles on the street, taxis are often readily available at major tourist destinations including the airport and top resorts. You may get lucky and happen upon a taxi at other areas of town, but it is best to be prepared and keep a list of numbers of taxi operators on hand so you can call and have a driver pick you up when you are in need.
Take a look at the chart below to find contact phone numbers for local taxi services.
|(809) 573-0303||La Vega|
|(809) 574-2909||Colon 3 - Jarabacoa|
|(809) 573-3627||L Carreras 49C - La Vega|
Although it can be pricey to take a taxi if you travel long distances or if you use the service exclusively, a single ride within town is usually inexpensive. You can get almost anywhere in town for $5(USD) or less, not including the cost of tipping your driver. You will want to be aware that there are no meters, so you'll have to discuss the price with your driver before you take off.
Wondering how much a taxi ride will set you back? See this array of data.
|Typical Cost (USD)||Location A||Location B|
|$ 90.00 - $ 95.00||Downtown Santo Domingo||La Vega|
Despite its location set so far away from the top tourist destinations in the country, La Vega offers a taxi service that its visitors can rely on. Though you may want to consider another way to get into town from the airport, once you are within La Vega, taking a cab is a fine way to get around.
